The Group of Seven disappoints

 Mouayad Alzoubi

The Group of Seven – which held its meeting last Friday in Hiroshima, Japan – did not hesitate to attack China and Russia and interfere in their internal affairs. Thereby, sparking a wave of global criticism that considered some leaders of the Group to be directing support to the interests of their countries and attempting to restore their influence on regions and countries they see as being under their tutelage, while other leaders of the Group aimed to achieve their personal interests in an attempt to restore their popularity in their countries. Thus, the Group of Seven went from being a group that aims to discuss important international issues to a group that sponsors devastation and destruction, interferes in the affairs of countries, and tampers with the political and economic security and stability of the world.

It is no longer surprising to find China’s name thrown into every global meeting, as it is clear that China is

destined to be forcefully involved in regional problems even if it has nothing to do with them.

And at a time when China was hosting the leaders of Central Asia’s countries to discuss more joint action and cooperation in development, there were leaders in Hiroshima who were looking for ways to create problems.

European countries can no longer pick up the large tab caused by US sanctions on Russia, and the entire world no longer trusts a global system based on hostility toward everyone calling for pluralism and a sharing economy.

It is as if the world is divided into two camps; Eastern and Western; and there are those who support this division and wish for the gap between them to grow larger since their interests are based on it.

And every time China tries to build a community with a shared future, we find Western intransigence, as some of them still believe that the sovereignty of the world must remain in the hands of one side; the side that sets the rules for everyone else to listen and obey and

classifies those who object them as dangerous, troublesome, and destroyers of peace; all the while, any devastation caused by wars, mobilizing armies, imposing sanctions, denouncing, obscuring, and raising concern left and right is found to be perpetrated by one country.

Doesn’t the world remember what happened in Hiroshima; where millions were killed in cold blood by a nuclear bomb?

And today, they meet in the same place not to apologize, nor try to settle differences, spread peace, or denounce violence, but rather to attack any country that disagrees with the West, deviates from their itinerary, or makes a specific development path for itself; as they are all considered to be outsiders of the Western policy imposed on everyone, which has become the “correct and only” policy model.

And at a time when the world is waiting for important decisions to solve its problems and support the global economy’s development, which is suffering from inflation, we could not see anything that may alleviate the crisis, rather, we found disappointment in the Group,

which has been derailed off its course for a very long time and will not be back on track as long as it feels superior to the world.
