The Jordanians’ joy over the wedding of the Crown Prince: Meanings and Significance.

Majed Al-Quraan

Jordanians are currently experiencing a state of joy with a special flavor as our beloved Prince Hussein, the Crown Prince for King Abdullah II, bids farewell to bachelorhood tomorrow, Thursday. He will be united in marriage with the chosen one of his heart and soul, Ms. Rajwa Al Saif.

We have great hopes for her name to bring goodness to our beloved Prince and our precious homeland. The celebrations and festive nights have spread throughout the kingdom, as we pray to the Almighty to bless our joyous occasion and grant them righteous offspring.
The joy of Jordanians, which has encompassed every corner of the nation, its cities, villages, deserts, and refugee camps, carries meanings and significance that go beyond the expression of their happiness for the Prince’s wedding. The Prince has captured the hearts of the elderly and middle-aged even before the youth, thanks to his Hashemite lineage and his love for the country, as well as his closeness to the general public, a trait we have been accustomed to since the era of the founding King, may he rest in peace, and his successors from the leaders of the Hashemite dynasty. This joy signifies a renewal of their allegiance to their leadership and affirms their sincere loyalty and devotion to the pure land of their homeland.
The aesthetic of the celebrations that have encompassed the nation reflects the folk traditions of Jordanian weddings, from lively evenings filled with traditional dances and national songs to henna nights, and culminating in the “Al-Qurayat” feast, a popular term for the wedding banquet hosted by the groom’s father. On the eve of the wedding, members of the Hashemite tribe gather in large numbers to enjoy the dinner feast (“Mansaf”), in response to the invitation of the groom’s father, His Majesty King Abdullah II. The joy of the people is no less than the joy of His Majesty and that of his mother, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, may God protect and bless them.
The joy of the Jordanian people in the wedding of His Royal Highness is not solely because he is a prince and crown prince, nor because he is the son of their king, or even because he belongs to the Hashemite dynasty, which holds a sacred and religious significance. Rather, they consider him as an individual from every Jordanian family, just as they view his father who has captured their hearts with his wisdom and humanity. It is rare to find a household without a picture that brings together His Majesty or His Royal Highness with a member of the family, reflecting the deep connection and admiration they have for them.
I pray to God to bring together our beloved Prince Hussein and his princess Rajwa in goodness, and to fill their hearts with love and mercy, and bless them with righteous offspring.
May God bless you and unite you in goodness, and extend the warmest congratulations and best wishes to both families.
