Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune commented for the first time on the achievement of the Atlas Lions in the 2022 World Cup, 17 days after the semi-final match between France and Morocco that took place on December 14th.

Tebboune said, commenting on Morocco’s gains in the World Cup, “The Moroccans honored Arab football, especially Maghreb football.”

Tebboune also recalled the Moroccans’ support for the Algerian national team during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“They applauded us when we won the African Cup of Nations,” he said in an interview with the French newspaper LeFigaro, according to moroccoworldnews.

King Mohammed VI sent a congratulatory message to Algeria, in which he praised the performance of our team during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tebboune’s statements regarding Morocco’s achievement in the World Cup came as a surprise, as the North African country did not issue any reaction at first to the achievements of the Atlas Lions.

Unlike many countries around the world, especially the Arab countries, neither the Algerian regime nor the Algerian press commented on Morocco’s impressive performance during the World Championship.
