Tribal clashes in the Darfur region of Sudan

Tribal clashes in Darfur have claimed the lives of at least 7 people in western Sudan, according to the official Sudan News Agency.

Clashes took place between Arab tribes of pastoralists and African tribes in a village near Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, according to eyewitnesses without knowing the reasons.

The Sudanese News Agency quoted the South Darfur State Security Committee as saying: A group of shepherds riding camels and motorcycles attacked the village of Amore, and the village was burned, killing 4 citizens, wounding 3 others, as well as two other people who were killed on Wednesday and Thursday.

After that, another person was also killed in the clashes that spread to neighboring villages, whose shops were looted and partially burned, according to the same source.

Tribal clashes have recurred in the Darfur region since 2003, as a result of the conflict that began after armed groups from African minorities raised arms against the Arab-backed Khartoum government, under the pretext of marginalizing the region politically and economically.

According to the United Nations, the conflict has left 300,000 dead and 2.5 million people displaced.
