40 people were killed and 33 wounded in an attack on a military unit in Burkina Faso

The authorities in Burkina Faso announced that at least 40 people were killed and 33 others injured.

as a result of an attack carried out by unidentified gunmen on a military unit near the city of Ouhaiguna, located in the province of Quelja, in the northeast of the country.

Albert Zongo, Secretary-General of the province, said in a statement Sunday evening, that the gunmen attacked the military unit that includes regular soldiers and other volunteer civilians to support the army’s efforts in confronting the gunmen, which led to the killing of 34 volunteers, in addition to 6 soldiers.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes a week after gunmen killed 44 people in two villages in northern Burkina Faso.

It is noteworthy that Burkina Faso has been witnessing since 2015 a spiral of violence due to attacks launched by armed groups across the borders, which has caused the deaths of more than 10,000 people over the past seven years, including civilians and military personnel, in addition to the displacement of two million people.
