Armored “NATO” sank in Romania

A NATO Piranha 3 armored personnel carrier sank during the Saber Guardian 23 exercise, the largest and most complex of its kind this year for the alliance.

The large-scale multinational exercise, titled Saber Guardian 23, with the participation of 10,000 military personnel from 13 countries, in addition to 1,700 pieces of military equipment, began in Romania on May 29 and is supposed to end on June 9.

The Defense Romania portal stated that the military training incident occurred when the soldiers tried to cross the Burca River branch, and it is not currently known whether this was a mistake by the military operating the armored vehicle, or whether it was a technical problem with the military equipment.

This is the largest multinational and most complex NATO exercise this year, which takes place in training areas and military facilities in Romania.

Military personnel from the following countries are participating in the exercises: Albania, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Moldova, the United States and the Netherlands.

Training activities include tactical ground movements, waterway diversion, tactical exercises with and without live fire, use of equipment from all force categories, parachute jumps, as well as medical evacuations and treatment of the wounded.
