In implementation of Bucharest’s request to reduce… Russia withdraws 40 employees from its embassy in Romania

A Russian plane with forty employees of the Russian embassy in Romania left on Saturday; To comply with Bucharest’s demand that Moscow reduce its diplomatic mission.

The embassy informed – the Russian news agency Tass – that the employees and their family members, numbering about 80 people, took a special flight to Moscow; As there are no regular flights between the two countries.

Some embassy staff had returned home earlier, so the latest departure brings the number of Russians who left the country to comply with the downsizing requirement to 140.

It is noteworthy that on June 8, the Romanian Foreign Ministry demanded to reduce the number of Russian embassy staff by more than 50 people within 30 days, and the Foreign Ministry said that the decision “reflects the current level of bilateral relations” in the context of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow considers the request a hostile step that could lead to a further deterioration of relations. And she warned that the Romanian approach would not go unanswered.
