Morocco stresses the importance of strengthening the legal arsenal of the African institution

Before the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the African Union, which continues its preparatory session for the next summit of the Union until January 27, Morocco reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the legal arsenal of the African institution in favor of joint and effective African action.

Ambassador Mohamed Arouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, who is leading the Moroccan delegation at this session, affirmed Morocco’s commitment to the Africa we want by placing the interests of the African citizen at the center of joint African action, adding that Morocco is by virtue of its experience Expresses its desire to contribute to the development of this field within the African continent.

Aroushi said in a speech during the study of the report of the eighth session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. For this reason, our delegation stresses the need to strengthen the commitment of Member States to more cooperative work to develop strategies to implement the mechanisms of the African institution, and in this regard encourages the Office of the Legal Adviser to contribute more In drafting legal mechanisms so that the committee’s experts devote themselves exclusively to core issues.

The diplomat indicated that Morocco continued, within the framework of a proactive and constructive approach, the series of engagement in legal mechanisms in order to show its commitment and full participation in the activities of the organization and to contribute to the agenda of all organs.

From this perspective, Aarouchi added, the Moroccan delegation takes note with satisfaction of the report, which faithfully reflects the deliberations of the Specialized Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, and considers that the ratification of the amended rules of procedure of the African Union Ministerial Committee on African nominations in the international system would enhance the work of the Committee in a way. to fully carry out its mandate while ensuring, for the first time, the broad participation of the members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives in its preparatory meetings.

The Moroccan diplomat pointed out that the Moroccan delegation welcomes the equal granting of three seats to each region in accordance with the principle of solidarity and equality in sovereignty among the member states of the Union, as well as the adoption of draft statutes for both the African Center for Training in Statistics and the African Union Institute for Statistics, which will form a central platform on which to focus. Its work is primarily on managing the African statistical system, enhancing cooperation between its partners, and on the other hand, on strengthening the statistical capabilities of the statistical system of member states.

In Addis Ababa, the work of the 45th session of the Permanent Representatives Committee of the African Union, preparatory to the African Union summit to be held in February, kicked off.
