The Dhaka Tribune newspaper quoted an informed source as saying that Bangladesh has submitted an official application to join the BRICS group.
The daily added, “The source reported that, during a discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa reacted positively on this issue. The newspaper reported that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh met with the President of South Africa last Wednesday in Geneva.
It is expected that the topic of BRICS expansion will be discussed at the next summit to be held in South Africa in August.
