Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that he had made an offer to join the Wagner Group’s fighters in the regular Russian army.

This came during an interview that Putin gave to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, in which he stated that he had offered the Russian Wagner Group to continue military service within the regular Russian army.

In the interview, which was published by the Russian newspaper late Thursday, Putin said that he made the offer in a meeting with the militants and the group’s founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin, late last month, five days after Wagner’s rapid rebellion against the senior leaders of the Russian army, which ended with Moscow awarding Prigozhin Wagner fighters had the opportunity to settle in neighboring Belarus.

Putin pointed out that it is up to “the Russian parliament and the government to discuss the legal framework for private military groups.” He said, “Wagner does not exist. There is no law for private military organizations,” according to him.
