Russian-Chinese military exercises in the Sea of Japan

A source in the Chinese Ministry of Defense said that units of the Russian army will participate in the near future in the “North Cooperation 2023” military exercises organized by China in the Sea of Japan.

The source said: “According to the annual cooperation plan between the armed forces of Russia and China, the Russian army will soon send a group of naval and air forces to participate in the exercises – North Cooperation 2023, which is organized by the Northern Area of the Chinese Army Combat Command, in the central part of the Sea of Japan.”

The source pointed out that the topic of the exercises will be “maintaining the security of strategic sea lanes,” and its aim is to increase the level of strategic cooperation between the Chinese and Russian armed forces, enhance the ability to jointly maintain regional peace and stability, as well as respond to various challenges in the field of security.

For its part, the Chinese Central Television said that a group of 5 Chinese warships left this morning the port of Qingdao in the eastern Shandong Province and headed to the place of carrying out the maneuvers. The group includes the destroyers Qiqihar and Guiyang, the frigates Rizhao and Zhaozhuang, and the supply ship Taihu.

It is noteworthy that Russia and China conduct joint military exercises periodically.
