Senegal hosts the Dakar 2 summit, with the participation of Morocco, on food sovereignty

From January 25 to 27, Senegal will host the Dakar II Summit on Food Sovereignty, with the participation of representatives of many countries, including the Kingdom of Morocco.

The event, which will be held at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center in Diamnidio (30 km from Dakar), will bring together governments, the private sector, multilateral organizations, NGOs and professionals to address the growing challenge of food security in Africa, according to the organizers.

The Dakar Summit, organized by the African Development Bank Group, the Government of Senegal, and the African Union Commission on the theme “Feeding Africa: Food Sovereignty and Resilience”, builds on the first edition held in 2015 during which the theme “Feeding Africa: A Strategy for Agricultural Transformation in Africa” was proposed. The statement added that private sector actors will commit during the summit to developing vital value chains, noting that central bank governors and finance ministers will undertake the task of developing financing arrangements to implement the food and agricultural provision pacts, working with ministers of agriculture, as well as private sector actors, including This includes commercial banks and financial institutions.

“We call for a global coalition of efforts across Africa to unleash its vast agricultural potential to become a global destination to address the world’s growing food supply shortage,” the statement quoted Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, as saying.

The program of the Dakar Summit includes 2 presidential round tables, high-level plenary sessions, and sessions to prepare a “Charter for the provision of food and agricultural products.”
