The Democratic Republic of the Congo announces the killing of 10 of its nationals in a bombing in Khartoum

The Democratic Republic of the Congo announced on Monday that ten of its nationals were killed Sunday in Khartoum in a bombing of a university campus by the “regular army”.

Congolese Foreign Minister Christophe Lutondola said in a statement that he had received “with great astonishment” the news of the death of these 10 citizens.

“who were killed in a bombing that took place on Sunday at 13:00 on the campus of the International University of Africa in Khartoum.

” He added that the information in his possession “indicates that this bombardment, which was launched by the regular army on an area inhabited by unarmed civilians, including nationals of foreign countries, also resulted in the serious injury of a number of other citizens.”

In his statement, the minister pointed out that, “after this tragedy,” he summoned the charge d’affaires of the Sudanese embassy in Kinshasa and handed him a “message of grief and protest from the Congolese government.”

In a statement to reporters, the minister said that he had asked the Sudanese diplomat “for the Sudanese government to provide us with explanations and to take all arrangements (..) so that the bodies of the Congolese dead are returned” to their homeland.

Since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15 between the Sudanese army led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, more than 1,800 people have been killed and more than 1.5 million people have been displaced among the displaced and refugees.
