Turkey.. 66 migrants rescued and 154 others arrested in Izmir

The Turkish authorities rescued 66 irregular migrants, seized 154 others, and arrested two people on charges of human smuggling in the western state of Izmir.

The Coast Guard Command said, in a statement published on its website, on Tuesday, that its teams rescued 66 migrants who were on rubber boats off the coasts of the “Dikili” and “Cheshme” regions.

She explained that the migrants sought help from their teams after the Greek Coast Guard pushed their boats towards the Turkish territorial waters.

In the same context, it indicated that 111 immigrants were seized and two people were arrested on charges of smuggling them on board a sailboat bound for Italy off the coast of the “Cheshme” region.

It also pointed out that the Turkish Coast Guard teams seized 43 migrants who were on a rubber boat off the coast of the Dikili region.

The irregular immigrants, after completing the necessary procedures against them, were referred to the Immigration Directorate in the state
