Egypt’s Olympic team coach announces final squad for Africa Cup of Nations

Egypt’s U-23 coach Rogerio Micale has announced the Olympic team’s final squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) revealed on Saturday.

Defending champions Egypt, who beat Ivory Coast in the 2019 final, have been drawn with Mali, Gabon and Niger in Group B.

The Young Pharaohs will kick off their campaign in the continental tournament by facing Niger on 25 June.

Group A includes Morocco (host), Ghana, Congo and Guinea, Egypt aims to qualify for the Olympic football tournament for the 13th time.

The top three teams from the Cup of Nations, which runs from 24 June to 8 July in Morocco, will represent Africa at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Egypt’s 23-man final squad:

Goalkeepers: Hamza Alaa (Ahly), Aly El-Gabry (Ceramica Cleopatra), and Mohamed Ahmed Sayed (Arab Contractors).

Defenders: Mohamed Ashraf (Ahly), Mohamed Maghraby (Smouha), Hossam Abdel-Meged (Zamalek), Hatem Sokar (Zamalek), Mohamed Tarek (Zamalek), Ahmed Eid (Enppi), Ahmed Sayed Abdel-Naby (Dakhlya), and Mohamed Samir (Talae El-Geish)
Midfielders: Ibrahim Adel (Pyramids FC), Mahmoud Saber (Pyramids FC), Emad Mayhoub (Enppi), Ahmed Nabil Kouka (Ahly), Mostafa Saad (Ceramica Cleopatra), Mohamed Shehata (Talae El-Geish), Mahmoud Gehad (Pharco), Aly Zazaa (Future FC), and Ahmed Fawzy (Arab Contractors).

Forwards: Ahmed Atef (Arab Contractors), Abdel-Rahman Atef (Ghazl El-Mahalla), and Osama Faisal (National Bank of Egypt).
