“Evil Does Not Exist” by Japanese director Hamaguchi Ryosuke, who previously won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for “Drive My Car,” won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the 80th Venice International Film Festival in the Competition Section. The winners in each section were announced on the last day of the festival.

In the past, Japanese director Akira Kurosawa has won awards at the three major international film festivals and an Academy Award.

The film “Poor Creatures” by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos won the Golden Lion Award for Best Film.

Hamaguchi tells the story of a village located in an environment rich in nature. Its residents are faced with a plan to build a camping site and facilities related to the facility to cater to the needs of tourists. Ultimately, villagers know that the project will harm the water supply and local ecosystem.

It is noteworthy that the director had won major awards at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. In addition to the current Venice Prize, the director has won awards at the three major international film festivals.
