Syria and the Arab solution: The UAE as a role Model

Those who keep track of the Syrian conflict are aware of the criticality of the current situation, the magnitude of the crisis, the ambiguity of the international position, and the gloom of the upcoming days in light of the enormous challenges facing a potential solution. Some of them are internal, and some are related to the nature of internal alliances, without overlooking the nature and role of the Russian-American-French conflict to increase the areas of influence in compliance with their strategic interests, which go beyond bilateral interests to the horizon of fatal hegemony in conflict management and the political and military spheres of influence they can seize in the region.

The second chessboard, which is witnessing a painful rivalry for the fate and capabilities of the Syrian people, is the regional influence and the attempt to control the decision-making process of the Syrian regime and the opposition alike, even if it is under the title of protecting the Syrian state on the one hand, or protecting refugees and displaced persons and curbing the Kurdish forces that support the Kurdistan Workers’ Party on the other hand, while turning a blind eye to the interests of the Syrian people and their territorial integrity from the dangers of division, terrorism, and actual occupation, albeit under other names.

The first actual Arab breakthrough in the Syrian conflict was by the United Arab Emirates, which adopted a quiet and effective diplomacy based on abandoning the policy of isolating the Syrian regime and contributing as much as possible to the gradual return of the Syrian issue to the warm embrace of the Arab League, enabling the parties of the Syrian crisis to adopt a realistic policy of dialogue in which the opposition and the regime meet halfway, and in which Syria returns to its spacious Arab space as an active and pivotal member in dealing with the crises of the region.

Jordan, by virtue of its neighboring and critical geographical location and its distinguished international relations with Russia, America, Turkey, and the European Union, has adopted a rational and conscious policy despite the sensitivity of the security situation on its borders with Iranian militias, which pose a threat to its security and the security of the Arab Gulf countries, yet it has remained at a safe distance from the parties of the conflict, and it is possible to play an essential and pivotal role within the framework of the Arab League with the help of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Algeria, Oman, and Iraq, to try to mend fences between the two parties and contribute to breaking the deadlock on the Syrian internal dialogue, and in cooperation with the United Nations and the parties of influence on the Syrian territory.

On the other hand, the success of the Arab countries in transferring the solution endeavors of the crisis to the Arab League halls will undermine over time the regional interventions and influence that has expanded and spread in the absence of a unified Arab position on possible solutions to the crisis, and the Arabs’ forsaking of a realistic approach that stops Syrian bloodshed and preserves the unity of Syria and the fate of its displaced people between the refuge and the dispersion, and recalls the fact that Arab security is an integral part, and that the Arab solution will restrain all those interfering in Arab affairs, which will make them leave Arab land forever.
