Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry is heading to Ankara to attend the inauguration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday, representing Egypt on behalf of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

“The visit is a reflection of the progress in Egyptian-Turkish relations in recent times, as both countries have demonstrated a keenness for fully restoring their bilateral relations to a normal state,” Shoukry said in a statement.

Following Erdogan’s re-election last week, El-Sisi and Erdogan swiftly decided to upgrade diplomatic relations between the two countries, including the exchange of ambassadors.

During a phone call, the two presidents emphasized their shared intention to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation, according to the Egyptian presidential spokesperson.
