Belgium.. another strike by “Rhine Air” pilots

On Monday, Belgian pilots carried out a new strike against the Irish “Rain Air”, forcing the company to cancel 88 flights through the Belgian Charleroi airport, one of its busiest European hubs.

The airport said the strike, the third of the summer season, affected 15,000 passengers who were planning to fly on Monday or Tuesday during the Assumption holiday in Belgium in mid-August.

The pilots of “RainAir” in Belgium criticize the Irish company’s unwillingness to respect a collective agreement that stipulates giving them a certain number of vacation days in exchange for cuts that affected their wages in 2020 during the Covid-19 crisis.

Pilots’ unions accuse the company of not respecting Belgian law and of making profits thanks to “social dumping” that creates unfair competition with other companies.
