Bomb threats put 42 airports in the Philippines on high alert

The Philippine Civil Aviation Authority said Friday that 42 airports have been placed on high alert following bomb threats.

She announced that “immediate enhanced security measures” are being implemented at all Philippine commercial airports while the threat is verified, explaining that the threats were sent via email and spoke of targeting flights to Cebu, Bicol, Davao and Palawan.

She stated, “Although the information is currently under verification, immediate enhanced security measures are being implemented at all airports.”

A source at Philippine Airlines said that the national carrier is operating “as usual.”

A Cebu Pacific spokesperson said the airline was “following usual protocols.”

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista revealed that patrols have been increased and K9 dog units deployed in all terminals of Manila International Airport, amid full coordination between law enforcement agencies, indicating that “there is no expected impact on any scheduled flights.”
