British gov: Artificial intelligence poses security risks to Britain

New analysis by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s government warns that artificial intelligence will pose major security risks to the UK within two years.

The official report, released as Sunak prepares to deliver a keynote speech on artificial intelligence, said AI had the potential to “enhance” terrorist capabilities, including in propaganda, weapons development and attack planning.

The report also warned that by 2025, artificial intelligence is expected to increase the frequency and complexity of cyberattacks, fraud and other crimes, according to the British newspaper The Independent.

The study, published by the Government Office for Science, says that a broader threat to humanity from artificial intelligence cannot be ruled out.

According to the newspaper, Sunak is expected to say in a speech on Thursday that artificial intelligence will bring “the opportunity to solve problems that we previously thought were beyond us. But it also brings new risks and new fears,” and that “doing the right thing, not the easy thing, means being “Be honest with people about the risks posed by these technologies.”
