China hopes to solve the issue of international food security through dialogue and consultation after the termination of the Grain Agreement

Commenting on the termination of the grain deal, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Tuesday that Beijing hopes the participants in the deal can properly handle the issue of international food security through dialogue and consultations.

On Monday, Russian presidential spokesman (Kremlin) Dmitry Peskov announced that the grain agreement ended on July 17, but Russia will immediately return to implementing the agreement as soon as the Russian part of it is implemented.

The official spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told “Sputnik” that, on Monday, Russia informed Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations of its refusal to extend the grain agreement.

“China hopes that relevant parties can properly handle the issue of international food security through dialogue and consultation,” Mao Ning explained, adding:
China is willing to strengthen relations and cooperation with all parties, help build broader international consensus, and make a positive contribution to global food security.
