Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that his country does not expect anything from the European Union.

Erdogan added in a speech he delivered before Parliament: “We have fulfilled all the promises we made to the European Union, but they have not fulfilled almost any of their promises, and there have been no changes in the European Union’s biased position towards our country. They are unfair to our country and act unfairly by ignoring principles and paths.” Which they put in.”

He continued: “We, as Turkey, do not have any expectations towards the European Union. They must abandon the injustice they have practiced against us, especially the introduction of the visa system. If they do not do that, they will lose the right to have any expectations on our part.”

Erdogan previously said in a press briefing before heading to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly meeting: “If necessary, the paths of Turkey and the European Union may diverge.”

It should be noted that Turkey signed an association agreement with the European Union in 1963, and in 1987 it applied for membership in it. However, accession negotiations began only in 2005, and were repeatedly suspended due to disagreements, and now there are 16 files out of 35 files. Negotiations are currently open.
