Typhoon “Khannon”, which was described by the Japan Meteorological Agency as “very strong”, was accompanied by winds of 180 km per hour.

The Okinawa Power Company reported that 220,580 homes were without power Wednesday morning, about 35 percent of all homes in the area.

A warning was issued to residents of Okinawa and the southern part of the Kagoshima prefecture, as the authorities called on more than 690,000 people to evacuate their homes and move to a safe place, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
