The Turkish judiciary issued an unusual ruling against the founder and CEO of the Turkish “Thodex” platform for trading cryptocurrencies, called Faruk Fatih Ozer.

Ozer was sentenced to 11,196 years, 10 months and 15 days in prison, after charges of financial embezzlement were proven by him against traders, through his company.

The Turkish authorities brought the aforementioned person on April 20 from Albania, after he fled there after the virtual currency trading platform he owned declared bankruptcy.

The Albanian Ministry of Justice had taken a decision to return Ozer to Türkiye.

At the end of August of last year 2022, the Turkish Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of Ozer while he was in Albania, and the initiation of procedures for his return to Turkey.

The Turkish Public Prosecution opened an investigation on April 22, 2021, following a report that Thodex customers were unable to access their accounts on the platform, amid reports that the company’s founder had fled the country.

Investigations later showed that Ozer had fled the country on April 20, 2021, with an amount of two billion dollars in his possession, from 391,000 accounts on the platform he owned. On the 23rd of the same month, the international agency Interpol issued a decision to prosecute him with a Red Notice.
