Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the protocol for Sweden’s accession to NATO, and it was sent from the Turkish presidency to Parliament in order to set a date for a vote on it in a plenary session of Parliament.

Erdogan had previously postponed the ratification of Sweden’s membership, accusing Stockholm of being lenient with Kurdish militants and other groups that he considers security threats.

It is not yet known when the Turkish Parliament will vote on Sweden’s membership in NATO.

All 31 NATO allies must support Sweden’s membership, but Turkey and Hungary have not yet ratified Stockholm’s application to join.
