The Turkish authorities announced that they had detected a temperature of about 50 degrees Celsius, for the first time in the country’s meteorological history.

Turkish Environment Minister Mehmet Oz Haseki said in a post on the “X” social networking site (formerly Twitter), “According to the data of the Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change, a new record temperature was observed in Turkey’s history on August 15.”

He explained that the temperature was monitored at 49.5 degrees Celsius in the city of Sarijakaya in the state of Eski Shahr in western Turkey.

The previous record temperature was recorded in the state of Şırnak in the southeast of the country in 2021, which is 49.1 degrees.

It is noteworthy that many regions around the world are experiencing record heat waves this summer. Data from the European “Copernicus” program to monitor the environment on Earth from space indicate that July 2023 has become the hottest month in the history of meteorology.
