Bluesky imposes restrictions to improve network stability

The decentralized social networking service BlueSky, a competitor to the X platform, announced that it was imposing rate caps in order to improve the stability and security of its network, but assured users that the publishing experience would not be affected.

The move comes shortly after a record high in registrations, thanks to Elon Musk, the owner of the X platform, announcing that the company formerly known as Twitter would get rid of the ban function, prompting users once again to search for an alternative to Twitter.

Shortly after Musk’s announcement, BlueSky collapsed on August 18 under the weight of the new traffic. Users have seen issues with slow loading times and occasional error messages when trying to view posts.

Loading of images and graphics was also slow, but the platform resolved the issues later that day, and BlueSky welcomed the new users by announcing a new traffic record.

Musk’s statements led to a new wave of subscriptions to the Bluesky platform, as the daily number of registrations rose from 536 to 5616 the day after Musk’s announcement.

“Earlier in the day we experienced degraded performance across our server, causing the app to slow down for users, but that issue has now been resolved,” the platform said at the time, while now saying: “With stability and performance as our top priority, we are imposing some application rate limits for specific actions.” such as resetting the password or updating the user ID.

The company stated that this update does not affect the user experience within the platform, in other words, these are standard restrictions on use, and are not strange restrictions like the new rate limits for the X platform imposed by Musk, which effectively prevented users from viewing when exceeding a certain number of publications.

In addition to this developer-focused news, Bluesky also announced the release of version 1.46 of its social networking app which includes shortened links, the ability to report lists and feeds to moderators, visual improvements to link cards, and the removal of an adult content label for posts without images. , and many other fixes, including removing muted and blocked users from suggested follow lists, and more.
