A recent study issued by the digital consulting company “Kepios” revealed that nearly five billion people, or more than 60 percent of the world’s population, use social media.

The company stated in a report Friday evening that the number of social network users has now approached the number of Internet users of 5.19 billion people, which constitutes 64.5 percent of the world’s population.

The study showed that there is a great disparity between the regions of the world, as only one person out of every 11 people in East and Central Africa uses social media, while in India, which this year officially became the largest country in the world in terms of population, the ratio touches one in three people.

The study also indicated an increase in the amount of time spent by users on social media by an average of two minutes, to become two hours and 26 minutes per day.

Kepios reported that four of the global users’ favorite applications are owned by the Meta network, which are WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.

The list of the most popular social platforms also includes Twitter and Telegram.

As for China, it is the origin of 3 of the most widespread applications in the world, which are WeChat, TikTok, and Douyin.
